My husband and I knew we wanted an indoor cat and a youngish one too as we had both had childhood pet cats and knew that we wanted to experience the full lifecycle of a cat if we could together. We initially approached Epsom CPL as we live in Epsom, but they had no suitable indoor cats. We then rang Croydon CPL and they said they had one and she was five years old and completely black in colour. They then hesitated and said she was a little overweight but on a diet and would soon regain her figure!

When we arrived at the cat fosterer´s home I was overwhelmed by such a variety of different cats (lots of different breeds including an Oriental cat). I noticed Sukey straight away in a corner sitting very quietly and composed. She hardly moved and seemed in a world of her own. When the fosterer picked her up though, she didn´t get upset and seemed to love being paid all the attention.

My husband and I soon had her on both of our laps and above the noise of several cats we could hear her purring loudly. I knew then that we had to take her home.

Once we had her at home she hid under the bed for three weeks and only crept out in the dead of night for food. My husband and I talked proudly about how she was such a sweet cat but secretly we were upset that she didn´t seem to want to share her life with us.

Then one day when my husband and I were in the living room she strode into the room and meowed loudly. She then rubbed her head against the door frame and waited in the doorway. Then slowly she walked over to us both and allowed us to stroke her. I was giggling nervously as I didn´t know what to expect next but I knew from then on she was going to be a proper part of the family.

Nowadays she sleeps on the top of our bed by our feet and usually wakes me up in the morning with a loud meow and a demand for cuddles. She loves being stroked any time of day and if not on the bed or sofa can be found on the window sill sitting in the sun watching the world go by.

We truly love her and the first thing either of us does upon getting home is to go and have a cuddle with Sukey!
